Characters/Pairings: Giant Squid / Phineas Nigellus
Author's Notes: This can be considered a sequel, of sorts, to my [info]hp100 drabble Giant Squid, The [appendix F: notable creatures] (the Hogwarts, A History challenge). And can I just say, Nny, thank you so much for this tailor-made challenge? Go squidfic!

Professor Ellison, the new Care of Magical Creatures teacher, shook his head. "Sorry, Headmaster. It won't be dislodged by any means, mechanical or magical."

"Absurd," scoffed Headmaster Nigellus, squinting into the murky waters of the lake. "Hogwarts cannot harbor the familiar of a late staff member indefinitely." He paused, struck by a sudden thought. "How long do Giant Squids live?"

Ellison looked uncomfortable. "Three to five years, sir."

"Preposterous! It's been here fourteen!"

"A descendant of the original, perhaps?"

"But how? Only one --"

*GLUB*

Nigellus only screamed once as the tentacle pulled him down.

"Magic, perhaps?" Ellison said, to nobody.

I fully intended to dedicate this challenge to you, because it was your birthday last week, but I completely forgot. *facepalms*

I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I loved your drabble- the Hogwarts, A History one over at hp100 made me snicker, but this one made me laugh out loud. =)
